At Schmitt Insurance & Associates we also work with many Medicare Advantage plans so that our clients have the full picture of their Medicare options. We leave no stone unturned. Medicare Advantage plans are a type of Medicare program that combines all the parts of Medicare into one program. Medicare Advantage plans combine health insurance and oftentimes drug coverage into one low or no cost premium plan. Private insurance companies such as UnitedHealthcare®, Wellmark BCBS, Humana and Aetna are some common Medicare Advantage companies we see in Iowa. Plans are sold by county and are built to have networks of doctors & hospitals that members use as well as set copays for medical and hospital services. These types of plans also oftentimes include additional benefits that Medicare alone doesn’t offer such as dental, vision, and fitness memberships included in the program.

Medicare Advantage plans are not allowed to ask any health questions and accept new members during the Annual Enrollment Period from Oct 15- December 7th for January 1 effective dates. People can also enroll in a MAPD when they first become eligible for Medicare or during other certain circumstances like qualifying for Medicaid.

MAPD plans cannot be combined with Medicare Supplement plans or stand alone Part D drug plans. Before choosing what Medicare program is best for you, we will educate you about all of your options and help you figure out what route is most suitable for your long term needs.
